Lewis painting at Chatsworth 2009
In 2008 – 09, Lewis Noble worked with Chatsworth House on a year long project to make a body of work in response to the many varied aspects of the estate. Producing large scale studio paintings as well as paintings completed in the landscape around Chatsworth.
In his introduction to the exhibition catalogue The Duke of Devonshire writes; I am delighted that a thoughtful and contemporary artist such as Lewis Noble should have wanted to devote a whole year of his working life to painting in and around the Estate. His work will add a new layer to the impressions of Chatsworth that have built up over 400 years, and which themselves shape the way the place is imagined.
The completed work was shown at Chatsworth throughout March and April 2009 before moving to the Hart Gallery, London.
