Who is this course for?

This course is for anyone who wants to push their creative studio painting to a new level. It’s a stand alone course so you don’t need to have done any of my other workshops to get the most out of it.

Not sure it’s for you?

Jenelle C. Workshop Student

It's a course on how to turn your experiences in the landscape into an abstracted visual story that's unique and personal
I've taken some popular 12 week courses multiple years in a row and never really understood how to convey my own experiences outdoors in an abstract way until I took your course. The way you teach how to do that is simply brilliant.

How does it work?

Learn by doing! Studio work can take days, weeks or even months to complete, so how do you carry over the spontaneous expression and freshness of a sketch? In this course you’ll be shown practical ways to keep your studio painting lively, energetic and creative.

Getting the most out of your paintings means having strong ideas as a foundation. You’ll begin by sketching outdoors (which can be a challenge for some) and be shown how to make that fun, pressure free and productive! Over the following weeks in the studio, you’ll use these sketches to build ideas & develop more involved studio paintings on board & canvas.

What is included?

  • At the beginning each week you will receive video tutorials with in-depth demonstrations giving you all the information you need for that week’s work. These detailed demonstrations are the same as if you were taking part in an in-person workshop.

  • You will have a full week to complete the tasks I set you in the videos, meaning you are able to work at a relaxed pace and get plenty done. You may want to work for a couple of days or spend all week on the assignment.

  • I will be present in the private Facebook group each day to respond to your posted work and answer questions.

  • At the end of each week there will be a LIVE Q&A session over ZOOM, during which you will be able to message questions and get feedback. Due to the larger numbers on the course compared to an in-person workshop I won’t be able to talk to you one-to-one but I’ll try to answer everyone’s questions and cover common questions which come up in the group during the week. These will be on Saturdays at 7PM UK but will be recorded and posted on the course for you to re-watch or watch if you missed it live.

  • You will have access to all the course material for 6 months & I will provide feedback for the initial 4 week duration.

What do previous students have to say?

Judy P.

"I enjoyed this course enormously and have nothing but praise for all that you have done for us all , Lewis, but I also really hope that people will want to remain a part of this extremely supportive virtual community."

Kathy A.

"Lewis, this has just been an outstanding class, and so important for me! I think I especially love having permission - and a format - to work from a combination of outdoor sketches, photos, and personal responses to the landscape.

Wow, I’m right on my growing edge. The brain squeeze of discretion and composition had a field day with me today, but what a blast and what an amazing education! THANK YOU LEWIS, for keeping it light, for having us work in our sketchbooks, for your amazing demos."

Sonja W.

"Lewis thank you for all your time, your knowledge and your heart to help each and everyone one of us travel further on our journey. You personally commented to each of us. I am so grateful. I will miss this class so much. You are a great teacher.
