This 24 page A4 book contains some of the works on paper from the many sketchbooks in my studio. They are a vital part of my working practice without which my painting would be nothing like it is today. When I go out into the landscape, it is all about grabbing information and soaking up atmosphere. I use drawing and painting as a way of looking. Importantly, the time spent drawing forces me to look and the more I look the more I see. I crop, tear and collage these paintings into my sketchbooks allowing the compositions to develop and responding to the marks I have made. Working like this, I find I am able to be far more creative with composition and arrangements of shapes and textures.' Lewis Noble
