How to work from your sketches and small paintings. It’s not about ‘scaling up’!
Simplifying your compositions to work on a big scale.
I’ll show you creative ways to apply the paint & successfully communicate what you want to say.
We’ll talk about different painting surfaces and tools ( some of which you’ll find around your home! )
We’ll look at why you might choose different size surfaces and the special relationship larger work has with you. (eg 60x60cm & 100x100cm or bigger!)
Do I have to paint really big to do this course?
No. Big can mean different things to different people. For many, a 2ft (60cms) square painting is plenty big enough and that’s absolutely fine. The ideas & processes in this course can apply to smaller work too. It’s all about creativity and having an experimental approach to your painting.
Sound familiar?
Having all that space to work with is daunting.
How do you fill it all up?
How do you control compositions so they work from a distance?
Jenelle C. Workshop Student
‘I've taken the course and for me it was much more than "doing the work", learning new techniques or structured "practice". It's a course on how to turn your experiences in the landscape into an abstracted visual story that's unique and personal. It could even apply to figure or still life IMHO. I've taken some popular 12 week courses multiple years in a row and never really understood how to convey my own experiences outdoors in an abstract way until I took your course. The way you teach how to do that is simply brilliant.’
