SKETCH II
SKETCH II
This new 24 page A4 book contains a collection of recent works on paper. Painting outside is an essential part of my painting practice. Beginning as sketches and collages in my sketchbooks, I regard many of them as finished works in their own right, as well as being the starting point for large scale studio paintings.
They are a vital part of my working practice without which my painting would be nothing like it is today. When I go out into the landscape, it is all about grabbing information and soaking up atmosphere. I use drawing and painting as a way of looking. Importantly, the time spent drawing forces me to look and the more I look the more I see. I crop, tear and collage these paintings into my sketchbooks allowing the compositions to develop and responding to the marks I have made. Working like this, I find I am able to be far more creative with composition and arrangements of shapes and textures.' Lewis Noble
